Driving grassroots sports forward
Through the A Place for Sport initiative, Sport Wales provides up to £15,000 in match‑funding to to help community organisations crowdfunding for capital (building or refurbishment) works that will enhance spaces within their local area.
A powerful impact: funds and stories that matter
Since launching, the A Place for Sport fund has enabled community clubs to deliver meaningful upgrades and inclusive improvements—supporting projects such as refurbished clubhouses, upgraded access ramps, and essential facilities maintenance.
Real-world club successes
Penallta RFC raised nearly £18,000, including an additional £4,500 in match-funding, to resurface its clubhouse patio, add picnic benches, and improve accessibility with a new disabled ramp.
Newport Cricket Club replaced its aging pitch roller through crowdfunding, raised over £15,000 and received £6,000 in match-funding. The project not only improved the turf but also enabled the club to expand junior and inclusive programming.

The A Place for Sport initiative is more than just funding, it’s a vehicle for community engagement and capacity-building. Participating clubs benefit from Crowdfunder’s coaching, webinars, and support services throughout the campaign process.This model encourages clubs to deepen community ties and deliver inclusive improvements that sustain local sport for generations to come.
